Sara Ramirez

Sara Ramirez has been a Mexican American performer, actress, and songwriter for many years. Her mother raised her in the USA in a place where she endured many racial taunts that made her feel like an unwanted person. Her confidence began to grow in the ninth grade when she appeared in an audition and was highly praised for her singing. The singer not only gained confidence because of the experience, but she also changed career goals. In 1992, she received her diploma from the New York's Julliard School. At the age of 23, she started her journey in Broadway in the Paul Simon musical The Capeman. Then, aged 23, her movie debut was You've received mail. In the Broadway version of the original show Spamalot she portrayed The Lady of The Lake and won both the Tony Award as well as high praise from critics. Later in the same year she appeared on the ABC show Grey's Anatomy as Dr. Callie Torres and gained wider acceptance for the role. An accomplished singer and producer, she's produced a single as well as an extended piece. She's also an activist who works hard in the fight for LGBT rights.
